CYBERCIDE - 'Adrenalin'
Genre EBM
The Bradford based trio of John Martin, Eddie Martin and Rob Ivey have come up with a fine future pop (or light EBM if you prefer) debut. Their strength lies in writing tracks that are not only made for the dancefloor but have enough depth and are engaging enough to reward repeated listens in any environment.
It helps greatly that John Martin is a very competent vocalist, even resembling Phil Oakey at times and who instantly makes hismark on the dynamic and instantly memorable 'Searchlight' , showing his vocal range to the full on a track that is sure to stick in your head from the first time of asking and which is thus ideally placed to take over from the short opener "Eisengrau". Eddie's Guitar adds some additional grit on such tracks as the dynamic and engaging 'Exocet' while "Redshift" has the sort of rousing chorus that VNV made their own. (not that Cybercide are soundalikes in any way!).
The obligatory slower track "Isolate" benefits further from Stefy's haunting voice and shows off the band's versatility as a whole, contrasting sharply ith the pacey "Underfire" while 'Recoil' and "Faceless" ensure the album ends on a high note.
The band are already booked for Dark City (and I'm sure an appearance at Infest can't be far away ! !) but this is an album worth checking out ASAP. -Carl Jenkinson
